It’s the story of a young girl, Jane Eyre (Fontaine), sent away by her aunt to be raised at a boarding school by a cruel Reverend. Were there ever two actors better suited for Jane Eyre? Her quiet voice sounds like a mouse in a cathedral, and her beauty and magnetism is downplayed in order to accentuate her grace. She is kind and tender, loving and sympathetic. Joan Fontaine has the sweetest disposition possible. He was huge in statue, and commanding whenever he spoke. His ideas were unorthodox, and although some saw his brilliance, others were intimidated by his very presence. He saw things differently from the rest of the world.
